I t's no suprise that Denmark does cute, cosy cafes so well. Everything about Denmark excudes hygge the Danish way of life, which can be loosely translated to "cozy". Almost every cafe featured rustic bricks, warm wood fires, lots of scandi style wood and furniture. If the coffee's werent $12 AUD a pop, I'd probably stay there forever...
Over 5 days in Copenhagen (1.5 days in Quarantine thanks to COVID-19) we explored a number of cafes. Here's my favourite three, quintenssenial Copenhagen local cafes. All are pinned on the map at the bottom of this post .
The first on my list is definitely my fave. Kompa'9 is housed in a gorgeous traditional old home, just around the corner from the prettiest and oldest streets in Copenhagen (Magstræde and Snaregade).
The cafe is quiet, cosy and warm, adorned with antique furniture, all from the original homestead. Try and nab a spot right near the beautiful original old wood fire.
Across the Sortedams Lake, next to Queen Louise's bridge, towards hip district Nørrebros, sits Social - Coffeeshop & Food. Social has one of the best menus in Copenhagen - all fresh, gluten free and healthy! From salad bowls to open faced sandwiches, acai bowls to danish breakfast platters... it's no wonder Social has received multiple awards for best cafe in Copenhagen - it's menu is one of the best! You are also spoilt for seating choices - from window bench seats, cosy sofa tables, large dining tables, or in the warmer months - dine outside on the footpath along the river.
Third, but certainly not least favourite, is The Little Yellow Coffee bar, or Den Lille Gule Kaffebar. The name doesn't lie - this cute little coffee shop is in a bright yellow building, down a cute cobblestoned street and right across from the oldest movie theatre in Denmark - Grandteatret. It has such a beautiful neighbourhood and cosy 'hygge' vibe. Head upstairs and get a table by the sofa, wooden chairs adorned with sheepskin rugs, as the morning light comes beaming through the windows.
This is exactly how Copenhagen coffee shops should be, and how my top 3 breakfast spots in Copenhagen above are! They're all pinned to this map... let me know if you've been to any of these by commenting below!
